I paid for my toddler’s trial baby ballet class. Unfortunately, the experience was horrible. Firstly, I would note that the teacher is unprofessional. She not only couldn’t handle rowdy kid during the class, she has also failed to understand her role as a teacher to teach. Her comments were “It’s not about practice”. She was referring to the fact that my daughter of 3 years old, who’s first time enrolling into a ballet class, could not relax her shoulder and point her toes. This comment was not only discouraging for my toddler, it also tells me that they are not here to teach because practice does not matter. Secondly, there was no proper waiting area unless the stairs were considered a proper and safe waiting area. The door to the staircase was left unlocked which raises a concern about the security of the students. There were many more unfortunate incidents during the one hour class. However, I think there is no need to further elaborate as they are not sincere in teaching but rather just to collect the fees.

I went to see their 15 years anniversary performance.. overall a well done to them.. can see that their management and dance teache put lots of effort in guiding the students.. with hearts...

I’m not confrontational but I’ve finally gotten enough courage to write about my daughter’s experiences after weeks with STSDS. I’m a retired school teacher in my 60s & I believe this teacher looked similar as my age so I can relate w/ her in terms of life experience & career (educator) & I understand perhaps it’s the pressure of upcoming competition for the reason of her being so unreasonable. My daughter had ballet lessons as a child & now she’s trying other dance styles. She had fun w/ many classes thanks to her amazing teachers especially hip hop & kpop but one made her stopped & I hope it’s just temporary because it’s sad to see her self-esteem suffered like this. My daughter isn’t the typical dancer-type with slender body & smooth body movement so when she tried out modern dance by cyndee, she experienced subtle yet hurtful tone towards her weight & body control from the beginning & maybe the class wasn’t suitable for her & it was hard for my daughter to get up from then. She was really trying. It was our first time with this teacher & our biggest mistake was telling her my daughter had ballet experience albeit not in the recent years unlike suern. I was impressed she’s an examiner but the words (jokingly maybe) & glares she gave my daughter were unwarranted. My daughter didn’t understand why she was targeted. As a mom, it hurt me to see her judged by an adult. She seemed caring & disciplined towards the other girls but too stern with my daughter making her feel isolated. Maybe my daughter was sensitive but she never experienced this from the other classes, maybe she wanted to bring out potential in my daughter, I don’t know. My daughter isn’t a quitter so she pushed through the class because she didn’t wanna waste my money on such expensive class but came home crying & said she will never dance with her again. She had some quick bursts of temper towards my daughter, which my daughter noticed was uncalled for. I told her the teacher is just upholding a certain level of value in training her students but to a teenager searching for her soul, she did not help at all & made it worse. All other teachers made it fun & exciting until this one maybe because the other classes were less “serious”. I truly hope that this teacher is receptive & accept unfavourable feedback since she’s obviously qualified & know-it-all, I also hope my review will help this teacher open up with humility to the idea that not everyone was born a dancer thus need classes & some work, not everyone can adhere to strict guidelines & some need time to learn & get used to, not everyone can accept snarky & subtle criticism & see it as constructive, not everyone can accept to see her as a role model if she’s giving unfair treatment to certain student based on looks/ability. Given the benefit of the doubt, she may not even realize this. Btw I was w/ my younger daughter & we were not welcome to stay inside to watch. I know we paid for 1 student but I didn’t know my younger daughter mimicking her paid lessons would make her feel uncomfortable. After all, that’s her bread money so I understood & I apologized for my younger daughter’s behavior. I hope she can look into her own character before deciding to teach any students with self-esteem issues. I’m not asking any teacher to be a counselor as this isn’t their job but we live in a world that needs more kind souls. If it isn’t in the creative world where everyone can be their unique self, where else can we find kindness in this world? Will never step foot in the studio again, as my daughter said she would rather lose a sole than more of her soul. To the other teachers, keep up the good work as I will continue to convince my daughter to rejoin your classes. I really want to see her happy again. To all the other parents with self-conscious children, I advise that you don’t be biased by my review & give this teacher a chance & perhaps you’d experience it better than I did. I hope this review doesn’t get anyone into trouble as I was merely expressing what my daughter suffered personally.
