I booked a one-night stay at Ames Hotel Melaka on 31/1/2026 based on my previous experience staying here in 2020, which was very pleasant and met the standards of a 4–5 star hotel. Unfortunately, this recent stay was extremely disappointing. The hotel no longer reflects its previous quality. The room condition was poor, with visible stains and mould in several areas, including the bathroom. The bathtub, in particular, felt unhygienic and uncomfortable to use. This was quite shocking considering the price paid is not cheap. Not to forget, the towels provided were in very poor condition. It is rough, worn out, and felt more like floor-cleaning towels. Even budget hotels provide better-quality towels than this. Breakfast quality has also declined significantly. The food selection and taste were very unsatisfactory, and I would honestly rate it 1/10. Overall, the experience did not meet expectations for a hotel of this category. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves the cleanliness, maintenance, and overall quality of the hotel for future guests.

Honestly, this did not feel like a 4-star hotel at all. Given the amount I paid and the hotel’s relatively ulu location (having to drive through quiet roads and roundabouts to reach), I expected the property to be better maintained. With lower footfall, I assumed upkeep would be easier — but unfortunately, that was not the case. The room was a huge turnoff. The toilet had extensive black mould stains along the silicone areas — around the toilet bowl, washing basin, and bathtub. I understand that mould can occur due to high humidity, but the amount present was far beyond what is acceptable for a 4-star hotel. It reflected poor maintenance and raised concerns about hygiene standards. We also noticed a multi-storey carpark on the premises, but were informed by the concierge that only the open-air carpark was available. While the staff was relatively polite and courteous, this did not make up for the overall condition of the hotel. There was also no pleasant window view, which further diminished the experience. I’m honestly not sure why these issues are not mentioned in the Google reviews. Given the price point, I would suggest topping up slightly more for a hotel nearer to Jonker Street, where the overall experience and value for money would likely be better. I would not recommend this hotel, and this will be our first and last visit.

Ames Hotel, Melaka is 1st class. When my family & I arrived at the hotel just a couple of days ago, we were met by the concierge who helped us took our luggage to our room and the front desk staff is, so courteous and sweet. The rooms were simply spectacula. It was spacious, neat and very clean. The towels & bedsheets were very clean. There was no hesitation at all about using the towels or anything as they were exquisitely clean. And the breakfast & lunch buffet were simply terrific. The choices of food, drinks & desserts were just too much that we, felt so spoilt staying in this lovely hotel. We are definitely going to stay in Ames again when we, visit Melaka & we are going to tell all our friends who comes to Melaka to stay at Ames Hotel. Thank you so much for making our stay in Melaka so memorable and enjoyable.
